Listening CCTV Trial Conclusion
A recent trial of microphones attached to CCTV cameras for the purpose of recording audio along with images has ended in the borough of Westminster.
The introduction of the microphones was met with objection from privacy campaigners and the Information Commissioners Office (ICO).
The council said after the trail of the technology it will not be further used.
A recent survey showed that 7 out of 10 people disagreed with the use of listening CCTV. Although the majority of the public seem to be for the use of CCTV in crime prevention they feel that listening CCTV is one step too far and is too intrusive.
